چکیده

Diffraction limits standard optical microscopy to a spatial resolution of about half the wavelength of light. We present novel microscopy techniques for imaging semiconductor materials and devices at better than diffraction-limited spatial resolution and observe previously inaccessible phenomena. We discuss the methods and results for Numerical Aperture Increasing Lens (NAIL) and Near-field Scanning Optical Microscopy (NSOM) techniques.

Nanofocusing beyond the near-field diffraction limit via plasmonic Fano resonance.

The past decade has witnessed a great deal of optical systems designed for exceeding the Abbe's diffraction limit. Unfortunately, a deep subwavelength spot is obtained at the price of extremely short focal length, which is indeed a near-field diffraction limit that could rarely go beyond in the nanofocusing device. One method to mitigate such a problem is to set up a rapid oscillatory electroma...

Breaking the diffraction barrier outside of the optical near-field with bright, collimated light from nanometric apertures.

The optical diffraction limit has been the dominant barrier to achieving higher optical resolution in the fields of microscopy, photolithography, and optical data storage. We present here an approach toward imaging below the diffraction barrier. Through the exposure of photosensitive films placed a finite and known distance away from nanoscale, zero-mode apertures in thin metallic films, we sho...

An Optical Super-Microscope for Far-field, Real-time Imaging Beyond the Diffraction Limit

Optical microscopy suffers from a fundamental resolution limitation arising from the diffractive nature of light. While current solutions to sub-diffraction optical microscopy involve combinations of near-field, non-linear and fine scanning operations, we hereby propose and demonstrate the optical super-microscope (OSM) - a superoscillation-based linear imaging system with far-field working and...

Towards Imaging Skin Cancer by Apertureless Scanning Near-field Optical Microscopy

Laser Scanning Microscopy Techniques such as Confocal Microscopy, Two Photon Excitation Microscopy, Second Harmonic Generation Microscopy or Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging have been successfully employed to date for imaging skin cancer. However, the resolution that such techniques can provide is limited by diffraction, which prevents accurately imaging (and differentiating) optical details sized...

Focusing and scanning microscopy with propagating surface plasmons.

Here we demonstrate a novel surface plasmon polariton (SPP) microscope which is capable of imaging below the optical diffraction limit. A plasmonic lens, generated through phase-structured illumination, focuses SPPs down to their diffraction limit and scans the focus with steps as small as 10 nm. This plasmonic lens is implemented on a metallic nanostructure consisting of alternating hole array...
